Finfish - Introduction
Marine finfish farming in Australia is dominated by three species - southern bluefin tuna in Australia, atlantic salmon in Tasmania, and to a lesser extent barramundi in Northern and Southern Australia.
Although over twenty other marine fish species have been studied for farming or stock enhancement in Australia, few have reached commercial production.
The main species for which commercial production has increased significantly in the past year is yellowtail kingfish, grown in South Australia. In New South Wales, commercial production of snapper has commenced, and commercial production of mulloway may follow in the next few years.
