Mixed Others - Introduction
This area accounts for 9 per cent of the total aquaculture output in Australia but is seen as an extremely important growth area, comprised mainly other finfish, freshwater crayfish and mussels.
Other finfish include trout, barramundi and inland freshwater fish, primarily silver perch, murray cod and golden perch.
The main species for which farmed production is now reaching commercial levels is yellowtail kingfish. Production of snapper and mulloway could also rise in the future.
Another other main aquaculture species that has seen significant investment in recent years is farmed abalone.
